harsh sounding brakes

I've recently had my discs skimmed at Mole Valley and red stuff pads fitted. All has been well
for a couple of weeks until now under heavy braking. Ordinarily the brakes are pulling the car up very well but as the car slows under heavier braking, there appears to be a kind of harsh sound, almost a kind of rumble from them. What d'you think?
Oh by the way, I take it you've all seen the write up on Nobles on the PH home page?

Probably not the best choice of pads, I've not used them on my noble but they've not been great on a previous car or with a bike.

The ferrodo or pagids seem to be the best tested if you don't want to stay with standard.

Noise could be hard pad material but not sure what else. My new brakes on the RS6 done it under hard braking for a few weeks then went away.

Interesting feedback regarding the red stuff. I thought I'd read a while back that they were good?
They appear to pull the car up quick enough, but that might be because my old pads were knackered!
As for the harsh sound, it isn't very nice at all. I'll give it a while and see what happens, they've
certainly produced some dust on the rims though.

is it a vibration or a kind of abrasive sound

check the holes in the disks are clear and not full of dirt

I'm thinking more abrasive. The discs were skimmed by Mole Valley so I'd like to think they cleared the holes, but maybe not. It's possible I suppose that the bedding in has filled the holes a bit quick?

I too have red stuff brake pads on my 3r and also had a weird harsh rubbing noise from the rear after light brakeing. Turned out to be the hub and wheel bearing and of corse the locking nut had come loose! Chhanged the hub and bearing no problems since. I dont rate the red stuff pads very hard compound and not ideal for road use so i was told but even still are doing the job for now

I'd better check those nuts by the sounds of it!
