Canon S95 experiences

Hello!

I'm looking for a brilliant compact camera to replace my SLR on holidays – I'm usually on my motorbike and my 20D and lenses takes up a huge amount of room. I've narrowed down my choice to the Canon S95…

Annoyingly, I need to buy it before August 27th (due to holiday!), which I gather is approximately 3 days after the S95's successor is set to be announced… so I'll probably try to get a second-hand S95 and then sell it after the holiday and buy the S100.

Anyway – who's got one and how do you like it? I imagine I'll be shooting RAW, mostly landscapes, a few people and will be using it in manual or Av mode most of the time. How's the IQ?

I have one, I use it for underwater pictures and, well, allsorts, I think it is great. I have also had a fair few complements on the pics

..also, a successor?!..It has only been out since last October..thats a bit silly isnt it?!

Got one! It just arrived at work – I can't believe the bargain I got, I managed to pick one up from eBay refurbished for £232. There's one shop in Surrey selling a lot of them – it's all completely kosher, it comes in a plain Canon refurbished box. There's a tiny tiny rubbed mark on top of the camera body, but everything else is as new.

Only had a chance to lean over the balcony at work with it, but it seems to take rather lovely photos. I'll be shooting RAW with it mostly – this just had the contrast and sharpness tweaked slightly in iPhoto (all I have on my work iMac).



I also tried out the faux tilt-shift video effect – you can see 3 seconds of it here (9mb .mov, so have a link). Really rather impressed. It feels lovely in the hand too…

I have one to compliment my D7000 as carting an SLR around with a young family is not always an option. As long as you remember it's not an SLR it's a great camera!

Yep! I still have my camera for all those times I have the space and when I know I'm going to want top-quality shots. I got this as I'm going away on my motorbike around Europe for 2 weeks (camping lots) and I can just slip it in my tank bag – I took my SLR last year and it took up my entire tailpack and I never bothered to get it out…

I'd rather have a camera and get shots of a slightly lower quality than miss the shot entirely!

I have an S90 that I use for the same purpose and I'm delighted with it. Of course, there was a successor to my S90 less than a year after I bought it - the S95, but I'm not bitter.
