Riviera Maya Mexico 23rd Sept
Discussion
Hey Folks I’m heading out to Mexico in Sept with the other half and wanted to know if anybody has been here at this time of year before.
It is their hurricane season when we go but have heard the weather can still be very nice and that when bad weather does come it doesn’t last very long.
Has anybody here been there towards the end of sept/oct and what were your experiences?
Thanks.

Yep i went around this time.
Had a couple of cloudy days yet very humid and had one brief spell (like an hour) where it pissed it down like nothing i've ever seen, another hour later it was sunny and nice.
so in two weeks we had a tiny bit of cloud and a brief but heavy shower.
It is a fantastic place and i loved it.

I went for 2 weeks in September 2008 and it was damned hot. We only saw a bit of rain on our last day.
We went to Chichen Itza for the Autumn Equinox in order to see the shadow of the snake make its way down the pyramid. Just before it was due to happen, there was an enormous thunderstom directly overhead. A few people were hit by lightening strikes and panic insued. We felt sorry for those injured, but in a weird way it made our day!
If you can, jump in a "Collectivo" and go to the ruins at Tulum. Then head to Paradise Beach which is about a half hour walk from the ruins. It is stunning!
At Akumal beach, there are Turtles grazing about 100-200m offshore. You can pay a local $20 to take you out, or if you're confident you can snorkel out there (as we did).
It's an amazing place!

Just got back from Playacar on Sunday ... had perfect weather all week until we were on the bus to the airport when it started peeing it down.
Forecast for this week was rain rain rain
Sept in the Carib is very unpredictable. You might get perfect weather, a couple of bad days or constant rain ..
Best of luck !

we went to riviera maya last september, weather was scorching most days with some heavy rain in the early evenings but never lasted too long
we stayed in a huge resort in between tulum and playa del carmen, but didn't venture out too much - tulum was quite pleasent with a nice mayan ruin to walk around and then a 30-40min stroll down to paradise beach, but i found playa del carmen a bit of a dump with lots of touristy shops selling sunglasses, tat and plenty of drugs on offer (if your tempted then watch out for honey traps)
taxis i found to be uber exspenisve, so we used the small buses which you flag down on the side of the road, just make sure they charge you the same as the locals
