Alloy Bell Housing

I bought an alloy bellhousing for the type 9 box sometime ago. It looked a good match and the bolt holes aligned with the old housing so I put it aside and got on with the other tasks. I eventually put it on the gearbox last month. Today I have finally put the gearbox and engine back in the chassis. Problem is the metal sandwich dust plate that bolts between the box and engine does not align around the starter hole. Looks like it will have to come off tomorrow and the old bellhousing refitted (shame there really is a great difference in the weights). Unless anyone has come across this before and has a solution? Do I need another plate off something else? Looks like I have been suckered. Doe's anybody know what the alloy bellhousing might be off if I have to sell it on?

Obviously I have not been able to see if the starter motor fits correctly to mesh with the flywheel, but from the hole positions it looks doubtful. If it did I would cut the plate and make a patch. If I knew what the belhousing is from I could consider changing the starter motor.

P.S. like the cap heads on the sump, not so sure about the purple earth lead

Would it not be an RS2000 bell housing ?

If it does mate a Type 9 to an Essex I'll beat Phillpot's offer of a tenner! Suspect he may not have been totally serious

Seriously, am planning a 5 speed conversion to the 3000M so on the list of things to get assuming it's that type.

Won't be in the slightest bit upset if it just lightens your S though!

If he has bolted to a 2.8 or a 2.9 and it fits, it won't mate up to a Essex engine, different mountings on the engine, there were only a few Granada made with the type 9 box as most were automatics.
A few years you could pick these up quite easily for a few quid now they are like rocking horse poo, I know Burton still do one but they are lots of dosh, I have one in my shed but may still need it for a project I am looking into.

I am going to try to keep it. From Phillpots post I think it may be off a XR4i. All the engine bolts etc. line up fine its just the sandwich plate around the started motor. I have split the sandwich plate on a couple of the bolt holes so that I can remove it without taking the engine or box out just separate them slightly. I will try to get hold of a 3 bolt starter and if it fits ok I will modify/change the dust plate. Thanks guys.
