More Police guilty of corrupt and inappropriate behaviour!
Discussion
Looks like Merseyside Police is yet another force with issues with its staff thinking that one rule applies to the public and a separate rule governs their own behaviour.

Whilst the photographs they took could be excused with a slap on the wrist (inappropriate, but also just letting off steam) STEALING THINGS FROM A HOUSE THEY WERE SEARCHING AND SELLING THEM ON EBAY, wow! How unbelievably stupid and hypocritical do you have to be to do this . . . . .article doesn’t mention if they are going to prison for their criminal activities, but I certainly hope they do!

Well, with other more senior officers, from another force, under investigation, one has to wonder what has happened to the management of our Police "Service", from Police Authorities down.http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/news/uk/crime/articl...

I have my opinion.

I genuinely beleive that many of our Public Servants in pretty much every branch they may be, just do not realise what they are ......ie Public Servants.
It's deppressing to read stuff like this but hardly surprising.
I heard a great sayingIt's deppressing to read stuff like this but hardly surprising.
There is nothing civil nor servant about the civil servic.
I can assure you that to the vast majority of us on the coal face, who turn up and work damned hard with no support from the totally out of touch senior management, these recent allegations of corruption make us feel sick to the stomach.
I have never come across corruption in my nearly a decade of policing, I don't for one second doubt it happens, as has been proven recently, but please please don't think it's rife amongst those on the streets. I am extremely proud of 99% of my colleagues and every one of us decent and honest cops would support the strongest punishment of the corrupt. The Professional Standards department is quite obviously one we're not always fond of, but you'll never hear a bad word spoken about their Anti-Corruption Branch.
And today, when our pay is frozen, our stations are being shut to the disgust of the tax-paying public, experienced and capable officers are being pensioned off and our civilian support staff (from the worthwhile teams and not the plethora of poxy audit departments) are being made redundant left, right and centre, we find that 3 of our forces most senior officers are getting a nice cushy pay rise for organising it...
The public have every right to be bloody upset, and so are we!

I can understand the concern about theft and corruption, but I fail to see the photo as a sacking offence in itself. I still have photos of me and colleagues taken during a search in connection with a murder.( in 1987) We are smiling and looking a bit silly. Is this really that bad?
Eta there must be more to it than this one photo. ( the theft allegations are still being investigated)
I hope there is, otherwise there will be a lengthy and expensive appeals procedure.

It has always been thus. I can remember a serving officer telling how things like gloves were always being stolen ,and that was in the station!
I have seen at first hand corruption within three forces . CID seemed to be the worst culprits , they have stolen from me.
There is a lot more that o have seen but I am not sure I should make comments where those involved cannot defend themselves .
I do not have an anti-police agenda. They are ordinary people and as such have all the traits that normal people do

The phrase gross invasion of privacy springs readily to mind . . . .
What are the guidelines set out in the PACE for the behaviour of “officers” during an investigation / conducting a search in private property?
As I’m sure you’ll agree, anybody abusing their position and selling things they have stolen whilst operating under the authority of a search warrant, shouldn’t see the light of day for several years

But that is a lot more serious than merely taking a photo of some men smiling for the camera.
As I say there are presumably more damning photos that have not been published.
With regard to invasion of privacy, how is this worse than crashing in to someones house with a BBC crew or, recently, Boris Johnson, in tow?
PACE guidelines don't mention that either.

It's not just the photos. It's the fact they were selling items they'd stolen from the property on Ebay etc.But that is a lot more serious than merely taking a photo of some men smiling for the camera.

long time first car in fact had a very s
t sterio in it. My mother worked with a woman who said she could get me one so I popped round to the office.
There was a selection there I picked one gave her £30 or whatever and went away happy. didn't cross my mind she was an ex police woman so didnt think they were dodgy.
a while later after thinking about it I asked my mum how come she had so many car stereos?
turns out she was married to a serving police man. Any car that had been stoled and dumped was cosidered fair game if the radio was in whoever got there first took whatever was left.

Hmm. Your mother was handling stolen goods then, along with the woman who sold them.

That is still being investigated. They have been sacked for this photo alone apparently.Employers cannot just sack staff without good evidence of Gross Misconduct. The Police are tested on this more rigorously than most, so there will have been good evidence of gross misconduct and full counsel on whether they could sack the individuals or not.
That they have suggests that the officers have committed gross misconduct according to their employer.
If you would suggest otherwise, then you're left with either the presumption that the officers did not commit gross misconduct or that they did and the Police Guidelines that created the situation that they did, are faulty.
Frankly I find both extremes in these threads distasteful; both the idiots who claim to brush all the Police as dishonest and/or incompetent and those in the Force who cannot bear to hear a bad word said about any aspect of it.
I suppose technically that is correct. We didn't know till afterwoods. Like I said we knew she was an ex police woman so didn't think about it.
lol I'll tell my mother that and she'll have a heart attack. ps she never handled anything the woman worked there and mentioned she could get one.
Its not like she told us up front because belive it or not I would not have bought it from her always been boring like that.
If they did that with cars its likely they did it with houses.
