Heater motor removal

I have an idea that I am not going to like the answers to this one! The heater motor on my S1 has failed. It is definitely the motor as I have taken direct feed and earth to it without success. Fan had certainly been stuck but I freed it off easily enough, so I suspect it stuck and the motor burnt out Shame the fuse didnt go!
No doubt someone will ask why I need a heater in an open car! Trouble is it rains some times and with the hood up then demisting is a problem.
I strongly suspect that taking the heater out is a b..... of a job. Presumably somebody out there will have done it and can advise?

Thanks Norman, should have done a search first but I have got a little out of touch!
Hmmmm, I was afraid of that. Looks like a winter job to me, dont want her off the road at the moment. If, as I expect, the motor is burnt out, what is it off and what is the source of a new one so I can get one in ready? That item isnt mentioned in the usually helpful Alternative Parts List.

I dont think taking the dashou is very difficult, see Gerald yesterday



Adrian Venn is swapping the dash for me - rewelding front corners of chassis and fitting ford servo/mastercylinder and that will be completed a week from today. So far all thats been done is a partial body lift and dash removed. So just the dash isnt too bad.

Now I cant help about fan motor BUT I suspect that the MGB?Midget one might fit

Ok I have changed my motor in my s1 recently it is not too bad at all and there is no need to remove the whole dash as it will pull forward just enough would be easyer to describe over the phone so I will e mail you my number

BTW you can get the motor out without removing the whole plastic bit fiddly but very doable

No idea but reckon something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-MGB-Roadster-MGB-GT-H... could be "made to fit"

Or maybe one from a Mini or a .........?

Can someone post a picture of the back of the plastic housing/motor mounting as I was unable to describe where exactly the two screws hold the motor in. For the record my recommendation is to pull the motor out through the front (It just fits )

Not all S1 heaters are the same, the early ones don't have the white tube across the front but have a slide type of deflector , the motor is clamped on the back where the resister is, the front cover is glued on so you have to remove it with a thin blade and re glue back on when you have replaced the motor, my motor is shot and I have not found a direct replacement as yet, so I have sorted out a different type from Car Builder Solutions.

Yeah that's it picture two. should give a fair idea it is award to access those screws but I did it so anyone can !
