O.K., now that I'm getting a 996...
Discussion
Well, I can only relate my experience with our 993, but I suspect that the 996 isn't materially different...
You can, with a squeeze, fit two relatively tall adults in the back, but it's a bly tight squeeze and they won't be particularly comfortable. It does help if the front seats can be slid forward as far as is possible but this doesn't make for a particularly good driving position.
It isn't helped by the fact that,on the 993, the front seats don't slide forward when you tilt them to get in the back. Makes for some ungainly manoeuvering getting in and out...! Don't know if the 996 has solved this one (our last VW Golf did!)
Short answer: Yes, but for short journeys only.
(Still you'll be driving....why worry too much!?!

Jason, if you get one with electrically adjusted seats you just operate the switch to slide the seats forward. Then you can squeeeeze your extra bodies in!
Thanks to the memory button you don't have a problem re-adjusting your driver's seat when you revert to normal two-seater configuration.
Or you could just tell them to walk.....
