I've never watched F1 live and have been told I should at least experience it once.

Can someone advise where the best place to watch it is? Obviously Silverstone would be the obvious choice - but uncertainties of weather and cost make European destinations better choices.

So where do you think I should go to watch the GP? Best value for money and best experience.

Thanks

Spa is always a good one, great circuit.

Monaco would be the ultimate though smile

Barcelona is great, but the circuit itself is not particularly fantastic due to limited overtaking, although the facilities are excellent. As an overall package for a long weekend away its hard to beat with the racing in the day and Barca nightlife.

Went to Monza in 09. Had good grandstand seats on the main straight, hotel, flights, hire car and tickets for all 3 days came in at just under £800 for me and the missus. Monza is easy to get in and out of in fact took less time to get home than Silverstone the same year and that's only 30 miles away

I don't recommend Monaco because the spectating areas give only modest views. Getting about is difficult too. The atmosphere is excellent, though.

Singapore, because it's actually in the city so there are plenty of other things to do before and after, and you can get very close to the track in some places. Walkabout tickets aren't so expensive, and there are some great rooftop bars to watch it from (try 280 metres up!)

Thanks for the replies.

I was thinking of a European one, but this talk of Singapore has got me thinking.

I could tie this up with a trip home to HK.

I need to research this further.

Let's put it this way - sit in a traffic jam trying to get out of a field somewhere or smashing it up at an after race party in a swanky nightclub...

I have never watched F1 live either, until this year. Having moved from London to Northampton I figured it would be worth popping along to Silverstone. £56 for a ticket for Friday practice gets you entry to the circuit and "roving grandstand access" (basically any grandstand block that isn't VIP you can go and sit in if there are free seats).

Lovely atmosphere, ste weather didn't spoil it even when we did get a bit wet in the second F1 practice when the rain decided to come in to the grandstand horizontally. It sounds twee but I know what the BBC presenters mean when they talk about the British F1 fans it really was a great day out.

Another vote for Singapore here. Excellent location, organisation and good viewing from the grandstands, the night race is spectacular. You are treated well and all the facilities work and are clean, more than I can say for most European circuits. It's not cheap I must admit and a general admission ticket will not usually get you great views, so a stand ticket is a must. You can be in the city within a few minutes from your seat and it will be warm if not dry weather. I am going back again this year then onto Vietnam and Cambodia for a holiday.
