NEX 5 Screen De lamination
Discussion
My wife bought a Sony NEX 5 just over 12 months ago, I picked it up recently to take a shot and was dismayed to see that the viewing screen has become partially de laminated. Having done some digging around it seems that this is a common problem with this camera.
We have taken it back to the dealer from whom we purchased it, they have spoken to Sony who seem to be suggesting its quite reasonable for the screen to deteriorate in this way and that we should have placed a screen protector on the camera when it was purchased!!
Does anybody have the same model and if so, hows your screen.
Suggestions as to what we do next?

If the screen itself is truely delaminating this would indicate either severe abuse or a manufacturing fault.
There is no way a screen should have this problem.
Ignore the fact that it is "out of warranty" and contact Sony yourself.
But, are you 100% sure it's not a protective film of some kind that was on the screen when purchased?
Can you post an image of the problem?
eta - I've been searching for occurances of this "common problem" but can't find any, can you post some links please.

Found this which might be useful for you.

If it's the same problem, it's not the screen delaminating but simply an anti-glare film deteriorating (applied by Sony).
The link above has a solution .... if it's the same problem.

yes I found this link and the first image exactly resembles mine, I cant show a pic of the camera because its with the retailer at the moment. One of the MDs of the retailer has the same camera herself and hers has done the same, also another of their staff has one and his has likewise delaminated.http://www.photoclubalpha.com/2011/04/18/replacing...

In point of fact the retailers have tried to get the camera fixed but the Sony rep has told them its not a manufacturing defect!!
IT definately isnt a protective screen that is designed to be changed periodically.
Dont my rights as a consumer end after 12 months ownership according to the sale of goods act??

No, they most definitely do not.You can have up to 6 years of protection if you can demonstrate that it's a manufacturing or design fault.
Which should be quite easy to do, if there's evidence of this problem all over the 'net.
I'd find some evidence, print it off, and take it back to the retailer, telling them it's a SOGA claim.
Remember, the retailer, not the manufacturer, is responsible.
Thanks for all the replies, I feel sure it is a manufacture problem or else faulty product design. In truth its just a pity we didnt discover it before the 12 months warranty expired as Ive no doubt the screen would have been sorted without any hassle.
Ill draft a letter of complaint and we'll see how it goes, I'll keep the forum posted.
Cheers

Contact Sony direct as well.
Sony take quality very seriously.
Take a look here :

Once they are aware of a recurring problem, you can see they will fix stuff for several years into the future.
In the link above there is lens coating issue with one of their cameras, and they will fix affected cameras out until 2013.
If they don't know about it, then they can't arrange solutions.
