How do you start a petition? The French are going to build a wind farm of 100 machines 200mtrs high off the coast at Normandy in full view of the famous beaches. There lie the remains of thousands of the brave young men that were never found,so it must be an official war grave site? or could it be classified as a Unesco world heritage site.D-Day was the most pivotal moment in the history of modern democracy. The free world gambled everything, and it worked,Europe became free. This will be the desecration of hallowed ground and must be stopped.Just look at the coast of France, there are plenty of places of little interest, why not build it there?

It's just a beach. This is progress. Building some big windmills is not going to change what happened sixty years ago, nor make anyone forget it. D-Day will always be in the history books. The world keeps turning.

bks. It's a bloody disgrace. The ungrateful frogs don't give a damn. Even built a motorway over WW1 graves a short time ago.

Time to invade again, methinks...

And don't get me going about the vandalism that is wind turbines...

I thought France was full of nuclear power stations (and wanting to build more in the UK).

The dead, thankfully a LOT fewer than feared, are in military cemeteries.

Don't see a problem apart from the fact that windfarms are useless without some sort of energy storage facility.

Sort of - but the 'doldrums' are located at the equator (I believe...)

Here's a Wiki...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intertropical_Converg...

I was just making a glib remark to a comment and stating that energy storage is a pre-requisite for windymill energy production, since windymills rely on wind (!) which does not always blow, and therefore when wind does not blow, you would need to fall back on all the lovely (unused) energy that windymills have produced in the past to switch on the lights!

Hmmmm...

Have to say that France has an overabundence of (nuclear) energy - so much so, that it sells it to the UK - in fact it seems to provide more (nuclear) energy than the current UK windfarms can provide.

Can only assume that building windfarms in France is down to some huge tax/grants scam!

Misunderstanding, feeble attempt to build on the humour, sorry, well aware of the whereabouts of the doldrums, mentioned in Ruddigore and, IIRC, the Ancient Mariner?

Sorry for not twigging..

And hopefully there's many an 'Albatross' around the necks of these damned windymills!

Anyhoo - we've done windymills to death - ridiculous to be building them here.

Can only be for the money - since they have sod all use...

They probably asked themselves how many Frenchmen are on those beaches, then proceeded. (tongue in cheek wink )

Or even 67 years ago, for those that happened to die on that day as well.

Err, yes...

Assuming Dogwatch was not being facetious, I was pondering the nature of such storage devices...

But windymills don't, if there's no wind or too much wind.

And they turn over a profit only because of generous taxpayer subsidies making us all bend the knee to the false green god.

Offshore expensive pointless white elephants? No thanks, and yes we have had our share of windymills in threads but it's always worth a heads up when more greenwash is in the air.

I think he was being - sorry! smile

The only viable storage devices would be hydroelectric..

But that's another story - and anyhooo - windymills are still crap.

The world keeps turning because D-Day was a success. It may only be a beach but its possibly the most important beach in history.History will always be in books but if you have ever stood on one of those beaches on a lovely sunny holiday and thought of what happened on that bit of sand it gets to you.If D-Day had failed or was impossible because the Nazis had already invaded the UK you would be speaking in German (or Russian?)any form of public debate like this would not exist.OR?The Yanks would have nuked Berlin and other parts of Europe so the UK would be dust.We must protect various sites/places etc or in years to come people WILL forget.

How is going back to a technology that we abandoned hundreds of years ago because it was crap progress?
