The A272 is good to drive along most of it's entire length from Winchester to Haywards Heath.

If you do, however, take the A272 from Winchester to Petersfield don't just stop there as the road from Petersfield to Chichester, the B2146 then B2141 is superb; it's got everything except speed cameras.

On the B2141 When you get to Lavant (just north of Chichester)take a left and wind up along the enjoyable B286 to Midhurst then hang a left back along the A272 to Winchester.

All of this drive is in the newly designated South Downs National Park and early in the morning,it's an AAA ***** drive.

Areed, but Petersfield is only just in Hampshire. Those B roads are in West Sussex. As is the A272 (much of which is also in East Sussex - my parents' house was a few hundred yards past where it ends at the A267). All quite a long way from the Berkshire/Hampshire border.

The road from Corhampton to the M3 via Morestead is excellent, and fits in nicely with a trip on the A272.

Thame to Bicester on the B4011 is outstanding ....
Burford to Cirencester on the B4425 is fast, undulating and often with long sightlines ...
Thame to Waddesdon (on the Chearsley / Winchendon / Main Road)

Heh, heh! Last time I drove it was very early one morning in my M3 and the girlfriend couldn't believe the speed that you can take some of the well sighted high speed corners at! wink

Thanks for the tip, drove my new car today the first time out of London on the A272, followed the variant to Lavant and back. Great fun, some ice already on the sides but still great fun. More ideas?

I just got my new car this week too. I'm gonna go there the next time I have a day off, if it leads somewhere interesting I'll probably make a day of it. Is that the Ferrari you were driving?
