Well I've finally put my deposit down and ordered a spanking new facelifted 2002 Carrera from Lancasters in Colchester. This will be my first Porsche and the realisation of a boyhood dream. I can't wait!

I can change the spec 6 weeks before delivery but I've gone for this for now: Seal Grey, the new 18" Carrera 5 spokes, -10mm sports suspension, sports exhaust, black leather, manual. No spoilers or bolt on's at all. Only thing I might change is colour to silver.

I've gone for the rwd in manual to save weight and increase the fun. This model in standard trim is some 180kg lighter than the C4S tiptronic, for example. Together with carbon fibre bucket seats and the omission of various unwanted mass (no rear seats & reels, stripped out luggage bay, light battery etc) it should weigh in some 1/4 ton lighter. Should be plenty nippy enough on the roads day to day.

Due to the waiting lists it'll be the other side of xmas now, so will be a 2003 model / reg. Worth the wait though. Funnily enough it's going to be cheaper than a low mileage year old version.

Don't go for silver, it's a good colour but a bit too common. Every SLK and Boxster also seems to have this paintwork. Whatever happened to Iris blue?

Christmas?
It would drive me mad to wait such a long time
Apart from the mechanical options, which did you specified?
Not much as I guess you are fighting against weight...?

That's what I thought. I like the way the lamps blend in to silver, but yes, too common. I've only seen one Seal Grey 911 and fell for it straight away.

No crazy gizmo's like sat nav or heated bottom massagers ordered. Just straight forward 'mechanical' type options.

thom, yes the wait would be very painful usually. However it will be perfect timing as it gives me just enough time to sell my conversion first.

2003 sounds good to me - I've got an order in too (turbo) but I've got to wait until 2004 for delivery! I've decided I can't think about it for at least 18 months or I'll go bonkers.

ah well...all good things etc.

Hasn't McNab taken back his deposit? I understood he would "make do" with the C4.

Roadrunner, good choice, but cancel it and order the forthcoming Carrera 2S (i have it on good authority it will be a stonking 3.8L) and is released next year.

Colour wise seal grey is 'ok', lapis blue is the 'don' or basalt black is good.

Big tip, make sure you take black or dk blue lthr, a porsche buyer advised me that anything else knocks the residual value.

I've always fancied black leather anyway, ooo err, missus. The 3.8 sounds good, but will it come with a massive body kit like the C4S? I'd like to keep some clean uncluttered lines.

So what is going(or staying) then Steve? The E46 M3 or the Caterham?

Roadrunner, many congratulations on your purchase.

I'm only 15 mins from you, so would love to see the porker when it arrives.

PS. Stick to seal grey, a beautiful colour in my opinion.

it is a lovely grey

not bad but just not all that exciting, Lapis blue is gorgeous as is the new metallic black

each to his own...if you like Grey go for it.

I do like the more subtle contempory tones admittedly. I also like black but don't want the hassle of constant fettling.

Dom

M3 will be 3 yrs old when turbo arrives, so it'll be shagged. (actually it is already) As for what stays...lets face it there is no contest - Caterham stays, M3 goes - (gotta' keep the Seven to show how slow the turbo is on track)
