What sort of conditioning/cardio do you do.

I love training in circuits but my favourite form of conditioning is barbell complexes smile

if you have not tried barbell complexes then have a look on youtube and have a go.

Conditioning with a barbell? 10x10 deadlifts. Otherwise I'd suggest 100 burpees against the clock.

Barbell complex works something like this.

Bent over row x8
Hang clean x8
Press x8
Back squat x8
Good morning x8

As you know Ben, high rep free squats (with sandbags), plus high rep, high intensity circuits/cycles/rounds with sandbags, kettlebell, cable sets (a Lifeline Trainer and Power Punch), Grappler and weights - with timer, e.g. 1 minute on 15 to 30 seconds off. Ditto for bag work - speedall/maizebag/suspended ball and heavy bag.

Length of sets and reps vary depending on mood and severity of the exercise, anything from 1 minute on to 3 minutes, rest intervals from 15 seconds to 1 minute. 'On' times will tend to go up and/or intervals down as I recover my fitness.

Haha excellent,we used to do this when I was doing Lau in the late 80's.Easy to be a bit evil though and when students started missing due to rib injuries

the instructor soon stopped! More fun to be had when practiced in Sei Ping Ma (horse stance) and you punch the quads as well.

Used to do it with a bag of gravel. I could happily whack most places (bar the obvious) but just tapping the shins lightly made me wince.

Yep, 'feel far better doing this sort of routine regularly now (except this week as I have a cold!). Not really tried complexes as such but do the odd super set or giant set and used to alternate things like leg press with pulldowns, back to back, set after set, which worked well. Didn't hurt my strength but gave an extra cardio/health boost. Will try similar routines this summer.

Focus is really on the boxing/endurance/speed + weight loss and to retain what strength I can.

Catching stuff on your shins is a different world of pain,I still have notches on them now.Definitely wouldn't do it again LOL

hehe We had a bare slatted staircase when I was a child - if you run your fingers up my shins, you can feel the dents. Socks and polished wood do not go.
