I've been playing first person shooters for years on PC. Consequently my brain is hardwired to using a mouse and keyboard. I have recently got my self an X Box, mainly for Forza 3 (and 4 when it's out). I have no problem with the controller for driving games.
I am however finding adapting to a controller for FPS games a real frustration. (probally due to age) So I'm looking for a game that is really easy (and slow) to get myself used to using the controller.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Maybe try ebay for a load of old FPS games, and see what takes your fancy. Ive seen games going on there for like £1 with £1.50 postage.

A fairly slow FPS (in terms of the pace in online games) is the like of Battlefield Bad Company 2, or the latest Medal of Honour.

The COD series seems very fast paced in the online games where as the two games above are made by dice, bigger maps and I find you can be a lot slower and more methodical etc when playing online.

I would get COD4, small maps and the same controls as the later titles.

Hammer that for a few months and then Modern warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 will be out smile

Fallout 3 would be a good one to ease you into the FPS controls since it's pretty slow paced.

Don't get COD4, full of hackers. Just get Black Ops

Wrong, don't get Cack Ops its a pile of **** COD4 is old, cheaper, simplier and a better game for a newbie and its not hacked to death (been playing it today no worries)

I got (relatively) good by playing the 1st Gears of War a lot online when I first got my Xbox.

Halo 3 is most definitely worth a shot as well. Even the campaign should help. Halo 1 and 2 can be bought with MS points I believe if you want to follow the story or whatever.

The slower pace of Fallout3, plus its VATS mode - http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault-Tec_Assisted_T... - would make it an ideal choice.

Plus you should be able to pick it up for about a tenner, which is an awesome amount of gaming for the price.

Fallout 3, New Vegas and it's massive ream of add-on chapters will keep you quiet for years, and will help learn you the controller for FPS. I came from the PC to XBOX asI was sick of games either running so slow as to be useless, or just plain not working at all.

Singularity is also a fairly easy paced FPS with some damn clever time localisation ideas.
Also, it's actually law that you purchase the Orange Box and Portal 2. Do it. Do it now.

True, but with Black Ops you can play against bots on your own in Combat Training

If you want something cheap, Halo (any of them) pretty much defined how FPS games would work on a console controller - and the pace is fitting.

Get Portal and/or Portal 2. These are 'FPS' type games but where there's no enemies (most of the time) but the controls for moving, looking and aiming are the same as proper FPS games like CoD etc. So if you play portal you'll learn to move and look more intuitively, before then moving on to play 'competitive' games.
