Ball pain - GET IT CHECKED
Discussion
I've seen a few threads/messages about this recently and I thought I'd share something that might reassure some of you on here about the process that you go through to discover if you are truly ill or not, and the lack of embarrassment involved. As a background I am a 23yrs old, I exercise 3/4 times a week and my diet is good (not that it would make any difference I would suppose). This s**t can (obviously) happen to anyone - you are not alone.
It all started with a pain (like a dull ache) in one of my balls about a year a go at the Le Mans Classic. I literally cried myself to sleep with fear that night. I went to the doctors as soon as I got back and was told to return in 6 weeks if the pain was still there. The examination was swift, didn't hurt and took 20 seconds. I hate the doctors and was really putting it off because I didn't want to go through the embarrassment of it all, but I went back and they still did nothing. Again, the examination was swift, didn't hurt and took 20 seconds.
They FINALLY referred me for an ultrasound after I went back in June, 11 months later. In that time the pain had periodically extended into my right leg and also become slightly more regular. Fast forward three weeks to last Thursday in a health centre waiting room.
Enter stage right: me, absolutely bricking it.
Your name is called and you go in, and the (not hot) nurse asks you to pull your 'lower garments' down, lie down on a bench/seat and put a blanket over yourself. 2 minutes later the doctor came in, put some cold gel on my balls and then rubs this thing that looks a bit like a TV remote over the area in question. The procedure lasted at most 30 seconds and I was in the hospital for no longer than 30minutes. The doctor was friendly, professional and polite, and the nurse was understanding and put me at ease. I was reprimanded for not coming sooner.
I don't have cancer. There is nothing wrong with me at all.
If they hurt, get an appointment THIS WEEK.

Why? There was naff all wrong with you! If they hurt, get an appointment THIS WEEK.

Seriously, glad it came back clear, ball cancer is one of the few medical things I'd actually go "oh s
t" to, rather than "ah well, it's what the NHS is there for".ShampooEfficient said:

Exactly, the moral of this story seems to be "if your balls hurt, it's probably not cancer"

Glad you're fit and well and well done overcoming your embarrassment.
I would add, don't wait until you have pain. You should be checking them regularly - it only takes a couple of minutes in the bath or shower.
I put off seeing the doc with my first TC until my left b
k was the size of a tennis ball and aching continuously; I was embarrassed and just hoped it would go away. It didn't.
Ten years later, I found my second TC myself when doing my weekly self examination. It was tiny and barely palpable. There was no pain or swelling this time.

One night for no reason mine started to hurt to the point I had trouble remaining concious, I could hardly breathe, not stand and felt like I was about too die, I was taken to the A&E section of my local hospital in the middle of the night and they woke a surgeon up and got hime to come in from home to operate.
One of the little feckers had become twisted and I had to have it sorted right away or I might lose it or worse.
They are a daft design.

It felt a bit wrong to have a male doctor cup my balls and look at them a week or so after the operation.
I think I might have preferred a female doctor to have a look, it would feel more, natural to me. Mind you there is always the danger of a lazy lob on with a female doc, the mini me did a good impression of a turtle that had banged its head and retreated into its shell when bloke doc was feeling em.

I had mine checked out by the doc and then ultrasound a while ago after one of them started aching and a lump could be felt
The whole process was very painless and quick, turns out it was just an epididymal cyst which are apparently very common.
Always worth getting them checked out.
