Thoughts on these two bikes?

Hey,

I'm currently thinking about getting a new bike to ride to work (about 5 miles on the road) and a few rides on the Wirral Way, which is off road, but nothing extreme. I went to my local bike shop, and basically came out thinking about 2 different bikes...

He said though, he would sell me the Cannondale for £450, so its only £100 more than the Scott. There was a similar spec Scott to the Cannondale for similar money (£450), but the Cannondale was slightly better. Just wondereing if there is any bikes similar spec/price that I should consider?
