Which wheelset?

I've thinking about upgrading my wheels and getting something which I would look at putting on a better frame in the coming year or two. I'm split between DT Swiss RR1450's or Mavic R-Sys Reds.

Which ones would the fellow p'head pedallers recommend?

I'm guessing your budget is around £800 unless you are looking second hand. What sort of riding do you do - does it involve a lot of hills?

The Mavic R-Sys prior to 2011 models were not known for reliability or stiffness, would not go did these but I have read the 2011 models are much better

The DT Swiss 1450s are pretty reliable but not hugely inspiring for the price unless you can find a pair with good discount

If it was me I would be looking really closely at Shimano DA7900 (merlin cycles were doing a good deal on these with VIP pricing a while back) or Campag Neutron Ultras if you are a campy guy, both of which are benchmark wheels and superb vfm, or the Mavic Kysrium SR's (I run Kysrium Elites and am very happy with them)

Yep, around that kinda money and I'm in the North East of Scotland, so hills are a given. Thanks for the advice, I'll go and have a look at your recommendations just now.

Yet to see/hear anything positive re. R-Sys wheels: everyone put of by the "old" ones, hence no-one trying the "new" ones!

If it were my money, Shimano DAs in whichever rim format bests suits you/your riding (24mm box sections or 50mm deep sections), with change to spare. Or failing that, contact one of the known wheelbuilders (Paul Hewitt etc) and see what they suggest...

What do you have now?

Apparently rs80's ride almost as well as the dura ace and are 100g heavier. Only about £280 too

Nice set o' GP4000S' or Open Corsa CXs to do them justice!

re. RS80s. Same(ish - stickers ) rims as the CL24 Dura Aces, Ultegra-level hubs, so any extra weight is concentrated in the centre. Yet to hear a bad thing about them!

RS80s are supposed to be very good. I have a set of 7850 C24s which I like a lot. Well built, uber-smooth, and pretty light. The 7900s are more of the same I would imagine.
