I have a Roush exhaust for my 3R but I don't have any gaskets for it. I've worked out I need 6, are they all the same and where can I buy them?
Also how much heat wrap should I buy and is it easier to wrap and tie off each section before fitting, or in complete runs once bolted together on the car?
Finally, is it worth bothering to spray high temp paint on the pipework before wrapping?

Thanks,
Rob

Yes all the same and available from most exhaust centers.
I think its much easier to wrap before fitting.

Thanks. Any idea how much wrap to buy and whether it's worth painting it first?

Why are you thinking about painting it if you are wraping it?

Don't know really, I need to spray the manifolds as they've been repaired and strengthened and I just thought "while I'm at it....."

I dont think there is any point.
Also after my manifolds were repaired i painted them and they looked like new but i hasnt taken long for the paint to flake very badly and look quite st.
Are you using VHT header paint on its own or with VHT header primer?

The Roush system is a better stainless so no need IMO to paint it, and mine came with a thermal coating on the hot ends.

Didn't even know there was a primer for that sort of application! I'm only going to do it as they're mild steel and were coated with something as standard.
As for thermal coating on the Roush, I've got a 2nd hand system and the pipework looks like it's rotten but when you look closer, it could just be a coating of sorts as it's just an odd colour. The boxes are both nice and shiny, as are the tails.

Yeah there is a primer.
I didn't use it on my manifolds as i didn't know there was one.
But i used it on my engine and gear box which still looks good although they dont get anywhere near as hot so i spose cant compaire.
Check out "car builder solutions" for the paint

Quite a lot of the Roush is ceramic coated IIRC and hence does indeed go a "funny" colour.

This isn't ceramic but looks like a very thin, even layer so has probably been spray applied.
Can anyone suggest how much wrap I need to buy?

I would recomend buying some of the good quality stuff rather than the cheaper stuff thats fitted on the std exhaust (white itchy stuff)... you usually buy the stuff by the roll which should be enough... make sure you get plenty of steel ties as one at each end is not enough.

More than you would think! Pretty sure I used 2 50ft rolls of this:

As mentioned, get plenty of stainless ties to go with it. You can also get the spray from here.

Cant remenber where i got the wrap but it the grey one(titanium). and its v good stuff + doesnt end up looking gruby like the white stuff will given time. As for ties i bought loads of them and couldnt work out how to get any tension on them. So dont waste your money just visit your local metal fabricators and get some stainless mig wire or similar. And use pliers to twist tight but not too much as it will snap. This will do as after a while the wrap the will go hard and set in place with the temp of the exhaust. For paint look on like for car builder solutions.

I'm going to fit this soon, have now used 100ft (!!!) of heat wrap and a clever CV boot kit as the stainless ties.

Just need to know where to buy stainless fasteners.
And is the general consensus still to run with no gasket between turbo & downpipe?

In my experience no, after it was recommended here I tried it and the joint blew and worked loose two or three times. Bought new gaskets and tightened then re-tightened after a day of driving and they havent worked loose since.
