This weekend, as part of a weekend long endurance challenge I am taking part in, I will be doing a short ride down the Irish Coast. It is only 45 miles and pretty flat but I am really looking forward to it as the scenery promises to be beautiful and it will be a great team of 15 taking part and having fun. What will make it more special is that I will be riding alongside Mark Beaumont who I think is a pretty cool guy.

So what are you doing this weekend? A 100 mile marathon or a ride around the park with your kid?

P.S. I am new to cycling (hence my excitement for it) and therefore this corner of Pistonheads, I hope these kind of threads are ok thumbup

clap Well done you & hope you enjoy it.

I use to participate in long of road cycling a few years back which was normally anything from 30 miles right up to 75 miles in one day.

I now only do the odd 3 miles perhaps 3 times a week. frown

What make of bike are you doing it on? My old one was a Specialized Enduro FSR.

Riding from Dublin to Arklow, trying to stick to the coast as much as possible. We need to arrive at the coast fresh so looking to do it in around 3 hours. It seems like a pretty flat route so hopefully I can spin it out and enjoy it (especially if the weather does clear up)

I bought a Giant Defy 4 especially for the challenge. I've really ridden before but have just fallen in love with it, it is such a contrast with my main sport of rowing (even though it compliments it perfectly for training). I can't complain about the bike, but I already have some upgrades in mind or possibly even just a straight up part ex for something a bit higher up the ladder.

It's on Sunday. Not sure of the exact route to be honest. Once outside London it tracks alongside the A23, goes through Warninglid and onto Devils Dyke before dropping into Brighton/Hove. It's about 60 miles in all. There are also 60m loops from Hove and a 30m ride from Haywards Heath

There is more info here: http://www.capitaltocoast.org.uk/ A few mates did it last year and preferred it to the L2B. I think there were about 2-3k riders and it's more relaxed than L2B.

Probably ~10 miles from home, around the park, and back home again with my son on his new 20" wheeled mountain bike, and my daughter in the trailer behind me. Towing her makes the trip so much harder than 10 miles (total tow weight is ~30Kg).

Then I'm spending the rest of the weekend refining an invention for something bicycle-related. Can't say too much just yet.

All sounds good, I hope the weather holds out for you all. I still haven't quite got used to how different roads seem when you are riding, even the ones that you know well in your car.

Mars, can you give us a clue what it is you're working on?

As soon as it gets off the drawing board/fag packet and I start making up the prototype, I'll post pics here. Don't hold you're breath though. It's going to cost me a fair bit so I'm having to spread the costs out into September.

10 @ Kirroughtree for me this weekend.

Team mate (pairs) crashed in front of me last weekend leaving me with a broken carbon road frame and no team mate for this weekend so going solo.

Good point - hired a 29er for the day as my steel HT is more fun than endurance (would have been ok for pairs) so first outing on a 29er.
Bad point - 10 (possibly 11 as there's a chance of a last lap after the 10th hour) hours of trying to do as many laps as possible. Was a bit of competitiveness going on between us and another team so I now have to beat them on my own. May have to cheat!!!!!
