Is this legal?

Hi, when I bought my eunos it had this square plate on the front which I didn't like(a bit chav IMO)....



So I changed it for this, but is it legal?....



I see a few with then here which I don't like as I think it spoils the cleaness of the nose, but maybe they are legal here?....

Technically, I don't think it should pass an MOT. But lots of people have them and have passed MOT's. I drove my 5 for several months with no front numberplate at all and never got tugged.

By the letter of the MOT handbook (and I've asked to see it after my car was failed) it won't pass, but as mentioned plenty of people do get an MOT, so it's just down to where you get it done.
I just stick the original rigid plate over my stick on one come MOT time and all is fine.

The law says that number plates should be mounted as near to vertical as possible. A stick-on plate on the front edge of the bonnet is not as near to vertical as possible.

No stick-on plate will be legal. Whether they are illegal is a different matter though. In theory they shouldn't pass an MoT but most places don't worry about them. I've had mine on for about 5 years without a problem. The police couldn't care less as long as you are using black on white with the correct font, sizing & spacing as ANPR cameras can read them just fine.

I was going to try this to see how long I could get away with it

Basically by lawif i remember right?anything above 1972 with a stick on plate is a no no, but the law also says that has long as it is flat it is ok???(so they can still get you with the speed cameras),so the law is an ar*e, leave it on ,you will be fine,their are loads out there with them that are not having any problems.

I must admit I stopped doing it as I figured it did increase my chances of getting pulled as I drive into a major city every day, and I'd rather not stand out from the crowd as I do have a reasonably heavy right foot.

it's supposed to be as close to vertical as possible. on the bonnet it's basically horizontal!

i've got a sticky plate on the nose like in that other pic, and have had no probs. but i wouldn't be at all surprised if mr MOT got funny about that.

Never had a problem with mine on the nose (on a 97). Mr Plod used it to read my number without batting an eyelid.

I put mine on the nose due to the "vertical as possible" rule and I wanted to play as close as possible to the rules to avoid trouble.
