British GTs in Bahrain
Season finale in the desert?
The British GT Championship could gain an extra overseas race at the end of the season. Championship organisers SRO have been in talks with the owners of the Bahrain circuit that hosted its first Formula 1 Grand Prix earlier this year.
SRO's Motorsport Director UK, John Ward, says: "This fantastic opportunity has come about thanks to the huge success of the British GT Championship this season and the proactive efforts of Stephane Ratel and SRO which has become the model for GT championship organisation. SRO and the Bahrain circuit have been in talks for many weeks and we are looking at running a non-championship event on November 27/28.
"However, we are not going to force teams to do an extra event and hence we have contacted all GT teams asking for their thoughts and levels of interest. If the teams react favourably, we will push ahead with our negotiations and announce news when we can. "
The next rounds of the British GT Championship will be at Snetterton, Norfolk, on June 5/6.
