MK1 MR2 cold idle too high??

I have just bought an '89 mk1 Toyoya MR2 T-Bar. It is mint, and has only done 57000 with FTSH. Its just that 3 things are bothering me.
1st, when cold, it idles at 2000rpm, which I thought was a bit on the high side. Does anyone else have this porblem, or can anyone suggest a cure?
2nd, for a few seconds after starting, something makes a squeak. At first I thought it was the alternator belt, so I had it tightened, and it has almost stopped it, but still contiunes for only a second at the most now. The garage said it isn't the belt as they have tightened it as much as possible. Does anyone else have any ideas?
3rd and last thing, the voltmeter reads just shy of 17 volts during everyday use. I have been told that it should sit around the 12-14 mark otherwise it'll cook the battery. Again, anyone got any ideas, or know if any of these are normal?

Seriously, the Mk1 does have a high cold idle speed. It should settle down when it gets warm however. If it does not, then the problem will almost certainly be a thermostatic air bypass valve, based on a "waxstat" type mechanism. These tend to fail as they get older and cause problems with high idle speeds.
The squeak may still be the belt, my alternator belt wouldn't stop squeaking no matter how tight it was, a new Toyota one cured the problem. (a couple of Halfords own brand belts also cured the problem, for a few months each, the Toyota belt has lasted the last 18 months with no problems).
17 volts is WAY too high. Not only will this boil a battery dry very quickly, you will be blowing light bulbs for a passtime and you are putting all the lecetronics in the car at risk. Firstly are you sure the guage is accurate? Use a known good digital meter directly accross the battery before condemming the alternator.
