Set off for mapping, 30 miles all good then notice oil light and no pressure. Pulled over, oil ok on dipstick and wire is still attached to sensor.

Engine starts and runs fine.
Just a glitch?

Im no expert but I would say not a glitch. IIRC the oil light and pressure guage are fed from seperate senders. If you have no pressure and the light is on then I would err on the side of caution and assume no pressure.

Hopefully someone more expert will be along shortly.

Not worth the risk.. trailer it to a garage and get them to put a proper pressure gauge on.. I had this happen and it turned out I had munched a main bearing, though the oil pressure didn't drop low enough to light up the standard oil pressure light so it might just be a duff sensor in your case smile

Safest thing is to get it checked properly before you carry on using it, no point speculating till then..

Much worse than I thought, it's as good as seized. Very tight. So AA home and a full stripdown this weekend. Absolutely gutted!

I fell for you as I know how much time and effort you have spent on the engine.

On way back home now. Guess I will be stripping the engine this weekend. Can't see me making the pod next sat. Maybe in the Mazda

Its more photogenic than it looks in real life.
Dont think it will be on the road soon with the latest discovery. The pulley has moved about 1/2" forward but the nut is still tight! Snapped crank?

I bet it is whoever bolted the front pulley on has forgot to put the spacer in there, hence allowing the front pulley to come forward and the oil pump inner gear has fallen out!

I dont mean the thick washer, they also have a collor that goes over the crank nose?

Is that the spacer to fill the gap from the (big) washer to the pulley when using the 4.6 long crank with 3.9 pulley etc?

I have been pondering pinning recently hehe

Only if it's a long nose crank, but you could be right, and hopefully it's not done too much damage.

Also if it has come forward and the centre gear has come out it would fall down and then make the pulley seem tight again.

When you fit a pulley on the long nose crank, which yours is, the pulley goes on but if you look the crank nose protrudes through the pulley by about 20mm, there is a spacer that goes on to take this "slack/difference" up, then the big thick washer then the bolt. fingers crossed it is this, just whip the pulley re locate the oil pump gear and put it all back together.
