Funny, twice in the last six months I've had punctures and they were the only two times I didn't bother taking spares with me. Fortunately the other evening it wasn't too far from home so SWMBO drove out with the mending stuff and I was soon on me way again.

Only, and I mean only, once in the last six years have I headed out without a spare, or at least a patch - and I got a puncture.

It was a lunchtime ride out from the office and I had to call a colleague to come and get me, which was a little embarassing.

2 weeks ago, mendip hills.. We form up to leave the car park and with 4 of us all with pumps I thought.. nah. I'll leave the pump behind but bring the tube, let everyone know so they wouldnt bugger off with a puncture.

Apparently they didn't hear my 'woaah puncture' shout and I ended up doing a 15 minute CX style event with a 15kg mountain bike over my back and the wheel with new tube in in the other. Had 2 ticks stuck in my leg to show for it too.. little barstewards.

Oh and for comedy value the QR skewer managed to undo itself whilst I was carrying the bike so I ended up going back to find the spring and end bit in the mud. By some small miracle we found both.
