After picking up a puncture after the first week of my new bike, I now have a second after three weeks. Two in 144 miles.
I stopped using the canal toepath after the first one too and have been using the road.
Off to get some puncture resistant tyres tomorrow.

TOW-path. It's a bloody TOW-PATH. Build one canal, in the days before small efficient motive power, and fill that canal with water. Build a boat. Call that boat a BARGE, but don't fit it with an engine because it is impractical and not financially viable. Your barge, and it's cargo, are now unable to move anywhere. Search for a solution which calls for a rope (or chain) and a horse. Call it a TOW ROPE if you will. Now all you need to do is to clear a space alongside the canal that allows the horse to pull the barge. Let's call it, for arguments sake, a TOW-PATH. Bingo! You are now in the canalboat cargo business, and can make a tidy living carrying the materials required to build the railways that will eventually put the canal out of business, but it's a TOW-PATH, always was and always will be.
OE tyres on cheaper road bikes can be a real lottery.
A friend of mine has basically never had a puncture out on the road with the bikes he's bought, but I got them a lot on my first two road bikes - a Specialized Allez and a Trek 1.5... as soon as I upgraded the Trek to improved tyres the punctures stopped happening.
So I just think cheap tyres have a lot to answer for!
