Has anyone here got any experience of franchises?
I am thinking of a complete change in career direction and have began to look at the possibility of buying a franchise. At the moment I have no real idea of what sort of one I want to go for but would be interested in peoples views on the subject.

AIUI a huge amount depends on how much you have to invest. For instance, one of the licensed money printing operations such as a MacDonalds in a good spot costs a LOT of money, and you're not allowed to be borrowing more that a certain proportion. OTOH, some of the cheaper franchises might not be worth the cost, albeit they are quite a bit less.
Have you thought of making bespoke kitchens? I've wondered about doing something along the franchise line.

t is not a good marketing ploy, their salesmen tried very hard but in the end, st is st and you need a rising market if that's what you want to sell.I made the marketing decision to make and sell decent stuff instead, and it's working out well for me, and there's a few other PHers that do it too, although the majority of them do fancier stuff.
Edited to add- no offence meant to anyone who has a Moben kitchen, I was using the 'S' word metaphorically, I've no reason to think their stuff was any worse than any of the many other similar makes, some of which I expect were made in the same factory.
