Suggestions for DSLR Audio Recorder?

The mic on my D5000 is a crap mono mic with no Mic Input (The newer D5100 has, but I'll not be upgrading just yet). I've thought about buying an audio recorder that I could mount where the flash does. I was unsure if this was possible, but I saw someone at the F1 with this setup. Something similar to this:



I've looked and can't find the attachment to the camera, I'd be looking at picking up a cheap audio recorder (SD Card if possible).. Can anyone recommend any, and if possible point me in the right direction for the camera attachments?
