Took my baby out for a spin this evening cause I was getting withdrawal symptoms and buggar me if it wasn't cutting out on me again. I posted a thread a few days ago and the help was much appreciated...I disconected the TP and it was running as good as new. I have not had the chance since the weekend to fix the new TP but for the first time since I disconnected it the symptoms returned, albeit not quite as bad. Could it be something else?????

Unfortunately - that would sound like a "yes". Or maybe you have two problems - a TP and something else.

When my throttle pot went I was not sure whether it was the throttle pot or the idle speed control valve, so I bought a gunson fault code reader from halfords for about £15. Plugged this into the ecu and run the basic diag which checks all the electrical components in the engine and it came up with a fault with the TP so I went and bought a new one !..

When I unplugged the TP on my the car it ran really bad, when cold it would just cut out, or I would just end up kangarooing of down the road !..

I replaced both Idle valve and TP when mine started cutting out and it still did it until eventually it just stopped about 4 miles from home.

I turned it over and over for a min or so over a period of nearly 2 hours at the side of the road whilst waiting for the AA recovery (nice man stopped to ask if I was OK, told me he owns a Griff and gave me a TVR brochure to read during my wait) and of course it eventually started but ran very poorly.

I managed to get all the way home and cancelled the recovery.

When I looked at the car a few days later it turned out to be the fuel pump. I have replaced this and hasn't cut out since. I did notice that my history file has 3 other receipts for fuel pumps. And... I think I know why. The fuel pump instructions (Bosch) said to fit a fuel filter before the pump to prevent pump failure. The S of course doesn't have a filter until after the pump.

So why don't I just fit a filter before the pump as well or instead?

Have you seen the size of the pipes? They are much bigger than any filters I have seen which would mean dropping down the pipe size with reducers and I wouldn't like to do that because of restricting the flow too much. I may look into whether I can swap the pump and filter locations and modify the pipes.

Anyone had any problems like this?

I would and did just replace my TP,when mine went irratic. For the labour price of a TVR dealer,an hour is worth more than a TP.I bought one from my local ford dealer. He said I may need a different plug to connect it,so i bought it and didnt need it so refunded that.IIRC it was about £25.Cured all rough running.

I think mine has two fuel filters one before and one after the fuel pump.

I think this is the fuel filter before the pump.. (although I could be completely wrong, and if I am I would be interested in knowing what it is for !!)..

I then have the standard ford filter as well in the rear of the transmission tunnel.

I have a supply pipe coming out the bottom of the tank straight into the pump then it goes into the filter.

As they say "No two TVRs are the same"!

Hi, my first ever post. I've got an S1.5. High in the rev range i.e when overtaking the engine kept cutting out (just when you need it!). I had a new fuel pump which worked for a bit, then it started again. A new filter later no change, so I had a look in the tank. Turns out the sender unit had been out before and someone had used hylomar to seal it back in. Said hylomar had covered a very small filter located on the fuel supply pipe which comes off the bottom of the tank. So I threw it in the bin, problem solved. I know that isn't the problem here but thought it worth mentioning!
