Redundancy - Do I have any rights
Discussion
Just after some advise if possible.
I started with a new company on the 10th of May and I was called into the owners office on Monday to say that they are shutting down my division. My area is profitable but they think they can ge a better return elsewhere.
Due to the fact I've been at the firm only 6 weeks do I have any rights? They offered a role to another member of staff in another area. Should I have been allowed to apply for the role as an equal? I've been handed nothing in writting as yet but say my last day will be this Friday, is this legal and is there anyway I can contest this?
Many thanks in advance.

So I'm buggered then. No chance of appealing the redundancy or having an opportunity to apply for the only job available due to my lack of time in the firm?
Not a professional in this area, but look at this the other way: Depending on how many people are at risk of redundancy, the firm might well have a legal duty to redeploy people who qualify for protection (ie who've been there for the minimum service) if at all possible.Still sucks for you of course - hard luck chap. hope something better comes along.
