Well, perhaps not that much...

Is there a Pitts Pilot in the house - a real world Pitts S1(D, S and clipwing S)/S2B pilot with Microsoft Flight Simulator experience AND a spot of time on his hands?

There's a new simulator model nearing completion and the developer would like some honest testing of the model.

Cheers!

Not me but I know one. Well S1, not certain about the exact marque. Email if you like and I'll pass his details on (or vice versa).

Fit the first requirement, but not the last two...

To be honest, whilst simulators are excellent tools for instrument and procedure training, trying to simulate aerobatic types is a bit of a lost cause - because you can't really replicate the experience.

FWIW, the Pitts, particularly the S1, is all about the rudder. Have your mate try his sim in a pair of the thinnest Sparco racing boots he can find - if flexing a toe against the rudder doesn't have an appreciable effect, back to the drawing board. Also, have the model detect if the previous landing was a greaser, because in reality the next one will be a howler - guaranteed.

I know of an S2 pilot, no idea with sim experience but can pass this on if you want me to?

@eharding

It's not a case of providing a training aid at all. The Microsoft flight simulator is all about FUN. It's a "serious" game although the pundits think "Game" is a four letter word. The truth is, us simulator fans are looking for realism as far as is possible. We all appreciate the limitations of flying an office chair, but the developers strive most seriously to provide as real an experience as possible.

We can't all have a six-axis sim in the lounge, but Microsoft's software is intended to be as close as possible under the circumstances - that's why software developers strive to provide the best possible experience.

As it happens, my real world experience is several hundred glider flights and several hundred "you have" heli hours as engineer. I know how to fly, but I cannot offer my developer the type knowledge, so I ask for help. I have recreated Patty Wagstaff's Extra, I have recreated the "Blades" Extras, I have recreated numerous aerobatic planes - not because they are perfect, but because fans of the real world planes really want to fly "your" planes in the simulator.

So I am looking for S1 and S2 fliers who appreciate that fans of the plane want the best they can get to support their favourites... wink

You say simulator fans are 'looking for realism as far as is possible'. What if that realism is not fun - ie it's actually a pig to fly and they keep crashing and they want something easier?

Why not have 'Fun Mode get in and be an Ace in 2 Minutes', and eharding's carefully thought out 'As Realistic as Possible Mode'?

You have a point... nevertheless, there's enough uncrashed Pittses out there to prove otherwise. And after all - the whole fun of flying a pig is to get it down in one piece after an exhilerating ride, no?

As a glider pilot, I had my share of "pig" but in the end something went "click" and I then fell in love with the Slingsby Swallow...
