Do any of you suffer like we do with the irritating sound of mopeds buzzing up and down the road most evenings?

Driven by 16-19 year olds it seems, starting around 4pm onwards (school finishing time), until around 11.30pm. While I agree these kids should have some fun whizzing around, the piddly little engine, coupled with a farting exhaust just does my head in.

Then you go outside and see them go up and down and up and down the road, riding like absolute nutters ('cos they think they're invincible), and some with cuddly toy ears stuck to their crash helmets, flapping away (quite funny actually). There's bound to be a nasty accident soon. Ho hum….

Imagine them cruising up and down the highstreet in a big, BIG yank-V8 with three speed auto...

blublublublub, eek, blublublublub, ...

I confirm, they'll like, too!

They will learn, if they live long enough. 50cc = the beginning. Eventually they'll porgress to 600cc and above. And then you won't touch 'em.

I've got no problem with these guys having to start somewhere before they can graduate to the Kwakazuki ZZXRZ 1300 "Widowmaker" or whatever the race rep of choice is these days but can someone please build something that doesn't sound like a gnat on a curry bender.

These poxy machines make far more noise than any decent car/bike and it drives me f**kin' nuts living next to a school where loads of the pupils have them. Surely to goodness someone can come up with a small, efficient engine that isn't so offensive. My LAWNMOWER has a decent 4-stroke for f**k's sake and makes a pretty reasonable burble, even if it's not a V8.

Absolutely agree. Change the sound they make.

And make 'em take some sort of test asap. Using the cut pavement to move from road to pavement to road (like Super Giant slalom) at 25-30mph, I find just a little dangerous.

I have seen the increasing trend for these "bees" to be present on the motorway network too. Not only it is blatantly stupid, but illegal too.... Where are the police when you need them?

I mean, would you sit on a piece of plastic doing 45 - 50 Mph on a motorway being overtaken by 40 tonne trucks? Suffed if I think that is fun... christ knows why these people do it....

Cheers,

Paul

My mate drove past the aftermath of this fairly recently. Middle aged man decided to take his 50cc scooter onto the motorway. As he pulled off the sliproad, he was pasted out of existence by an HGV and mashed all over the road. Bits of body all over the place apparently.

I felt sorry for the HGV driver.

Don't confuse scooters for mopeds. A moped cannot exceed 50cc and 30mph but there's step-thru scooters of up to 400cc which will happily do over 100mph.

Why on earth anyone in their right mind would want to, on something with wheels no bigger than a donut and all the handling agility of the QEII with a broken rudder, is completely beyond me however
