Facebook juror jailed for 8 months
Discussion
Why? Contempt of court is serious offence - like Perjury and PCOJ.
Should be dealt with like this; it must remain a serious deterrent to interfering with the judicial system.
She was warned repeatedly by the judge, it's not like she fell foul of some silly arcane law that 99.9% of the population don't know about..
She'll be in an open prison in a week and out in 4 months anyway, less with a tag at a guess...

It sounds fairly premeditated and consistent contact to me; it's not like it was a Facebook search and single message:

Someone once said that unfortunately Juries are mainly made up of people too stupid or lazy to get out of doing it.
Certainly in some of the pictures of her, she doesn't look very bright. It was a pretty sensitive case - a police officer was involved and was jailed for 4yrs - and it's gone wrong several times.
What amazes me is that it was the other woman (Sewart) who brought this to light, when she'd already been acquitted and had then effectively offered a bribe to the juror.
Given the educational standards in this country, I worry about being tried by "peers"
There should be a base test for suitability, and perhaps an ability to strike jurors in pretrial?
Or for people to opt for trial by 3 judges (which would be my preference) - an extension of the 2007 powers.

I've done jury service more than an average number of times (4, and I'm only' 39) and there's always been a moment or two when I've sat in the waiting room, looking at some of the people in there, praying that I don't end up on a jury with some of them.
Oddly though, every group of 12 that ever been a part of has, in the main, contained mostly middle-class, intelligent professionals.

I don't know what concerns me most:-
1) that someone that ugly exists
2) that someone that ugly has bred
3) that it was allowed on a jury
4) the quality of the "written" correspondance between them
What concerns me is that if you were ever wrongly accused of comitting an offence and faced trial, an imbecile like this could be on the jury...1) that someone that ugly exists
2) that someone that ugly has bred
3) that it was allowed on a jury
4) the quality of the "written" correspondance between them

She was jailed for being a fuk ugly troll.

On that high note, having just watched the news show a clip of the other defendant walk out of the courts my first thought was 'cracking norks' rather than 'what a miscarriage of justice'.
