Silverstone secures British GP

British Racing Drivers' Club have confirmed the British Grand Prix will remain at Silverstone up to and including the 2006 season.

The decision was made after a deal was agreed with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

Ecclestone had voiced concerns that Silverstone did not meet the standards of other Formula One venues.

The agreement means it is unlikely London will host a Grand Prix, following recent speculation

Good news at last, Bernie has finally stood by his agreements

Only because all the new venues have State funding.

That was never on the agenda in reality, it was all a publicity stunt, where in London could you get the decent roads that don't have speed cams on?

Gaz - I will have to talk to God about you. He may decide that you belong where the gaz-fired furnaces live...

Come to think of it Silverstone can be a cold and windy place

List all the positive things about silversone, I think you will choke by the third point.

Personal positives:

First time I raced there I turned upside down and lived (OK, OK, I know you wish I hadn't)!

Still hold the backwards record (Abbey Curve to Woodcote when it was straight), and lived...

Got pissed on by Gonzales spewing oil - then retired - then nearly died laughing when he laid about the officials when they black-flagged him.

General positives:

It's English.

It's centrally located.

It's a good fast challenging driver's circuit.

It's an ideal testing circuit (easily reached by most F1 teams).

It's the home of lots of competition-related engineering firms.

And so on. Sorry, not choked yet...

It has also treated the F1 world with the most exciting races over the last few years, including overtaking no less

And despite being emasculated over the years still has some very quick and demanding corners - Bridge, Maggots-Beckets-Chapel, Copse. And a straight which cars can overtake at the end of - Hanger Straight.

We might moan about the facilities but without building a completely new circuit there's nothing better in the UK. Donington is too small and even worse than Silverstone on facilities, Brands Hatch would need millions to upgrade it, the others are just club circuits with even worse facilities.
