Viewing RAW files problem

Since upgrading to Windows 7 ultimate (clean install) I can't figure out why I now can't see my RAW files as a thumbnail in any windows folder, they just show up as an unknown file type.

I've installed Canons RAW codec (1.8, latest version) but the computer still won't display them.

Someone give me a clue?

Were the photos originaly taken on a canon? RAW formats are not always the same from diffrent manufacturers.

View in 32 bit windows explorer

Create a new shortcut on your desktop and point it to:

%windir%\SysWOW64\explorer.exe /separate /e, /root,D:\

Assuming D:\ is where you keep your photos, substitute that drive letter if they are held elsewhere

I have noticed I can view RAWs fine in their raw form but if they have been through Lightroom they won't display

Canon/ nikon et al havnt made any 64bit codecs for windows yet.

Hopefully one day soon they will...

I was thinking of calling you a rude word then but thought the effect would be lost due to the swear filter.

Install Irfanview and the plugins (all free) and set raw files to open with Irfanview. That creates thumbs.

I had to download the windows live picture viewer then all of the thumbnails came up fine in explorer.
