It seems logical for different areas of the country to share resources. Worthwhile exploring the ideaa.

The engineering logistics are absurd. And the COST of the water (it wouldn't be given away by Wales or Scotland) would be huge. Plus you can't just take water out of rivers now due to EU leglislation (the Water Framework Directive and Habitats Directive) - massive legislative issues.

He's just opened his mouth without even getting some proper advice on this...

Do you know where a substantial amount of Birmingham gets water from?

But I can see Alex Salmond selling Scotland's water if it's more profitable than using it for hydropower...

Done in a different legislative environment and at a time when this sort of engineering was cost effective. Not anymore...

We've had our water from wales here in the west mids for years as has liverpool etc

I presume you have no problem with excess power generated in England going up the national grid to Scotland?

No wait I've read your posts, you'd only have a problem with stuff going out and not in.

From the article you linked to.

"He has been in touch with Prof Roger Falconer of Cardiff University, and both believe a possible solution could be to move water via rivers and canals."

Read my previous post. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure Scotland now sells a net amount of energy back to the National Grid...

Yes read that but don't think Prof Falconer understands the legislative environment very well...

It could be fooking jelly babies and you'd still moan you sent out more jelly babies than you got in, seriously we know your views, we know you hold the union in contempt.

You're like the bloke bhing and moaning about how your wife got fat after 30 years being with her, the island at the present time is in union and until otherwise we should work together.

It is an old idea and for very good reason it has not been implemented in the way that Boris sees it. Theoretically do-able (enough hydraulic head for the gravity to overcome channel resistance so no need for pumps) but massively expensive and a legislative nightmare (especially on the scale Boris is thinking about).

By far the more sensible thing is to spend less money to make the current water supply network more efficient - a high proportion of supply is lost due to old, leaky pipes etc.

What on earth are you on about?! This is not a Union argument/debate! The water would be sold by the water companies. But that it not the main issue anyway. It's engineering logitics, costs and EU legislation...

It's not an energy argument/debate either but you managed to slip that in. You can't have it both ways

No, ST brought the energy issues into the argument 10 posts down...
