Upgrading PS3 hard-drive.
Discussion
Hi All,
Sorry if this has already been asked, but could some please provide, or point me to somewhere that dose, a point by point brakedown about what is required to upgrade the HD in a playstation 3. Im getting sick of having to either delete games or saves and have recently seen a 1TB disk for less than £45! lol
Thanks in advance,
Chris.

A 2.5 inch HD (SATA) and a philips screwdriver.
Remember to backup all your save game files to an external drive (HD, USB or flash) because as soon as you put a new drive in the PS3 it will format it. If you then put your old drive back in, it may format that too! (Mine didn't as I removed it when the power was off and disconnected)
You take off the cover on the end of the PS3, remove the screw, take out the HD (pull sideways then out) Remove it from its caddy, replace with new drive, slot back in and then power up.
PS£ should recognise HD and format it on boot.
That's what happened with me.

Thanks for the info. I'll get the HD ordered and give it a go. Yep, as Silvagod said, it’s really easy to do. Basically you’re just removing a guard and then sliding the old drive out.
If you Google it there are many, many clear sets of instructions online and plenty of step-by-step videos on YouTube.
You didn’t mention whether yours is an original-style PS3 or a Slim one, but if your current hard drive is that small, I’d guess you’re on an older machine.
Fire away—it’s cheap, easy and really hard to mess up. Good luck.

If you go to www.mukerji.co.uk he's got a step by step guide on how to back it all up and change the hard drive.
Plus he's properly into his cars too......
