I was looking at buying a Honda s2000 and have read in a few articles that the new revised s2000, as well as having bits of chrome, glass rear screen and extra letaher also has a different ssuspension set up. However the sales man at Honda knew nothing about this. Does anyone know the facts and would they recomend one?
I took delivery of mine a couple of weeks ago.
I don't know what the truth is about the suspension, at first Honda didn't mention any suspension changes when they announced the 2002 model, though later on, Evo I think it was said that Honda had confirmed the changes.
They supposedly softened the rollbars and stiffened the dampers, having driven 2001 and 2002 models I couldn't feel any difference at road speeds, but the changes were to make the car easier to catch at the limits of traction.
There is a lot of speculation among S2000 owners that the suspension setup story was created by Evo to allow them to change their view on the car without losing face, they don't strike me as particularly knowledgeable journalists at the best of times and they have a reputation within the industry as being somewhat self-aggrandising to say the least.
Whatever, find a dealer who is knowledgeable about the car (many aren't, they sell Civics all day) and take a test drive, make sure you find some good twisty roads. It's not to everybody's taste, most people either seem to love it or hate it, but a decent test drive will either have you grinning like a cheshire cat or vowing never to drive a vtec car again, good luck.

I read in the back of Autocar (I think it was in the summary pages) that the S2000 is not up to Honda's usual high standards of reliability???
Autocar ran the car for 50000 miles - they had a new gearbox at 6000 miles and a new towing eye cover at 20000 miles I think - that was it - nothing else.
They also lost it big time on a straight piece of road and thumped both ends - standing water + VTEC = possible 360.
There were problems for some owners with the gearbox and clutch - if you are buying a used one ask if the owner has had TSB-054 and TSB-055 done (most have not - and may not need to)
