Doing my first 600km audax tomorrow. Was planning on riding through, but been told by the organiser that the control points won't be ready >400km at the times I was planning. Now aiming to get 2-3 hours sleep and a bunch of stops for cake, and still get it done somewhere between 32 and 34 hours (ie comfortably within the time limit). Start is at 6am tomorrow morning. I'm expecting to feel pretty rough by Sunday lunchtime.

how do you train for one of those? from a time perspective it has to be difficult, let alone a physical perspective. be interested to know what your training schedule was

I think flatness and a steady, measured pace are the important things there. That, and lots and lots of food. And then some more food.

Did it in 31h55m (6mins behind the guy who finished first). Training was just extended commutes (done over 7000km so far this year), a 100km, 200km and 300km rides. Yep, slow, steady, eating on the go. I thought it would be an epic, grueling experience. The reality of this ride (windy at times, barely any rain, no big hills to speak of - albeit north norfolk is hillier than I'd given credit) was that it wasn't very tough. Sure, sleep deprivation is hard. However, my moving average was just 24.5kph. Didn't feel done in by it at all.

Completely fine - really, I am going out on my bike later. I have a Brooks B17 saddle, and it just works. Other than a bit of chaffing from my shorts at the 150km mark, due to poorly sited leg warmers (took them off, applied sudocrem, no further trouble), all my kit worked pretty well. The only annoyance was 2 punctures - one at 20km that put me in last place for a bit, and several GPS screw ups due to me misreading it when a route/waypoint failed to cancel and it refused to route me to the next point. The GPS was due to misprogramming when the route was setup, and I can't really blame the tyres, as around 10% of riders had punctures in the first 50km - there where tiny flint fragments everywhere.

If I was going to change kit choices, I wouldn't use Nuun Tri-berry electrolyte tables again - grotty aftertaste (had two tubes, - the yellow flavour was fine), and I shouldn't have had a double espresso at 510km - - gave me heartburn.
