The 308 is a GTB 1979 S Reg 33000 miles from new.....Red on BLack Leather, sport exhaust, £17,950!!!
the cars electrics motor and Chassis are bullet proof took a qualified mechachnic to look at it. I want to bring the car back to show condition, there is rust on the car it needs new interior except the dash and doors whuich are mint. referb of the wheels and a paint job....I being really picky as if you looked at the car its fine I just think it would be great to bring it back to perfect!!

First of all, join the FOC.

I've just had my paint redone which cost me £5k from Stallion (Fcar/Maser/Bentley specialist in Nottm). You can spend anything up to £10k on paint, depending on how silly you want to be ! Find someone who knows how to paint these cars properly, they are a right old mixture of alloy panels, GRP panels and steel panels, and there's a fair amount of lead on them too. Stripping the car can be a PITA too, for example you know the black strip along the top of the doors under the glass ? Well, to remove those you have to totally strip the door internals (window, winder mech etc) and drill out the pop rivets that hold it on from the inside. A 2 hour job for a professional, just to take a bit of trim off. Each side !

Pretty much all of the bits are available from Ferrari themselves, these are one of the better cars for bits. Prices though :sucksthroughteeth: ... well, what you'd expect really. Some things are not too bad, some things are silly. For example I've a tiny rip in my headlining, for a bit of 4" by 8" cloth they want something like £70.

Check out www.owners.ferrari.com and sign up (you'll need yer VIN number) ... there's an online catalog in their parts section, which includes all the prices.

Southbound Motor Trimmers (01264 810080) do lots of trim, don't know how they compare to genuine prices though. For example, retrimmed seats £680/pair, carpet set £500, overmats £75 etc. I have a vague memory that a seat cover from F themselves is something like £1500 or so ...

I'm still trying to find someone who can refurb the wheels to the standard I want ... be careful because if they are original F wheels they are magnesium alloy ... if just painted, the magnesium powders up underneath over time, and lifts the paint off (guess what's happening to one of my wheels !!) To be done properly they should be bead blasted (or something similar that's gentle, and NOT chemically dipped) then powder coated, THEN painted to the right colour. I've heard that one of the bigger F-car specialists down south refurb wheels, but I don't know to what standard (Verdi ?!?)

Be careful by the way .... £18k is a very good price for a 308 and you've done well there, but there's a reason ... you can easily and quickly blow a LOT of money doing her up, so much so that you might have been better buying car that's already done in the first place. Just a word of caution to watch the budget

Check out www.superformance.co.uk too, though they mainly have mechanical stuff, and some of the trim stuff I've had from them I've not been happy with the quality. They are good for common-or-garden service bits though. They also do some nice 16" repro wheels if you want to ditch the original 14"ers, but they are made of aluminium alloy and are thus heavier. Nice looking though, and suit the car. I'm sticking with 14" and XWX tyres.

That's the general stuff out of the way ... anything you want to know in particular ?

How about some photos ?
