Just spotted this "good" news story about HP creating 170 call centre jobs in Gateshead
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-13673548
But I was sure there was a "bad" news story earlier in the week about them closing a call centre and potentially laying off 200 staff. Quick search and I found this:
http://www.journallive.co.uk/north-east-news/today...
So a net loss of 30 jobs, the closure of one call centre and the opening of another.
I wonder if they got any grants or government support for the 170 (-30) new jobs they are creating??

It seems the norm now.
Business x wants to lose 20 of it's workforce of say 200.

Local council does deal to reduce costs as long as 180 people keep jobs.
Business x agrees and produces press release to say that they have managed to save 180 local jobs.

Everyone happy.
