I'd love a heated windscreen but am penniless at the moment following a chassis rebuild so will have to pass this time I'm afraid.

However......

This is exactly the sort of case where it would be really useful to get the TVRCC involved and cover the upfront cost of manufacturing a batch. Would it be worth approaching them for this? It's something the MG and Triumph clubs (amongst others) seem to do regularly.

Have done........

They don't seem to keen, I am trying to persuade them.

My rational is that even if 20 people don't want a screen now, over the next couple of years the remainder will be needed by people like yourself (once your bank balance has recovered!) or by future TVR owners.

I have offered to help Jon (who has put an ad in Sprint) to organise and administer this plan.

The TVRCC is run by volunteers. I am volunterring.....

No individual can afford to stump for for the shortfall at this moment in time, so why not the club? They have plenty of income, lets put it to good use.

To benefit current and furture TVR owners and keep classics on the road where they belong- even in winter!

Good man Steve.

I seem to remember discussing the remanufacturing of rare/obscure parts topic a while back on the Yahoo list but it died the death then. Maybe we can apply some gentle pressure in some way to convince the committee that it would be a really good way of keeping the older cars around and being used on a regular basis. It bugs me a little bit that you can buy pretty bits like stainless steel kickplates from the club for all of the modern cars but something like this is automatically a no-no.

Still looking for more people to sign up for a new 3000M Windscreen with heating wires a la modern cars.

Total is looking good but we still some more to join us to help reach the minimum order of 20.

The TVRCC BTW have helped with a mention in Sprint, but as far as giving some temporary financial help are about as interested as George Bush at a peace march. They didn't even bother to reply with a no; so we are on our own. Guess fancy Le Mans Tuscan and Grantura sponsorship take precedence over supporting the people who belong to the club and are trying hard to keep their cars on the road.......

Come on guys, spread the word and don't miss out- details below in original post.

Hi - have to say I could not agree more about what the club should be supporting. Its a pity this screen does not fit the S Series - I'd be interested.

Update- Still need more people but the club may help if they can be convinced it is a serious proposition. Lets not forget it is other peoples money they are custodians of, so need to be reassured it is a good investment. Contacts below.

I think shipping will be hard- someone else below from Luxenbourg interested too.
A suggestion; if everyone from Europe gets together and one person comes to Uk collect they could be met at Dover and then individuals collect from one central point in e.g. Holland. Depends on howe many peopel not UK based are interested. We will see on the interest, I have written to TVRCC Benelux, DEU and Swe to ask for possible members

This sounds like a very benificial venture, however i can understand why the club are reluctant to get involved. This would be quite a big investment of members subs and for what must be regarded as a non-essential upgrade.

Don't get me wrong, i have driven a S3 Vixen on a cold damp day and can see the benifit, but unless the total supply of non-heated windscreens has dried up, the lack of heated ones is not going to keep these cars off the road.

Would any of the larger parts suppliers be interested in supporting this? Thinking of the likes of David Gerrald or others...

An update- shipping is possible within and outside the UK. Costs to be confirmed, so anyone outside UK, don't be put off. I have collated an FAQ on a webpage and will add the link here soon.

RE: club involvment.
I disagree with anything not being essential not being worth the club helping with. Plenty of cars are not driven in winter because of practical issues like the rubbish heaters and consequent steamed up windscreens.
Perhaps if this scheme was a success it could be repeated by later cars owners e.g S series, if there was enough interest?
It may be club involvement may not be necessary but if it is I am hopeful they would help.

Can you confirm that the screens are laminated?? This is the other requirement, being for a race car.

They toughened & laminated, made to modern production standards, the same as a new car would have.
