I suspect the answer will be none here.

However my gf has been in a new job for 6 months, probabtion period was 3 months, they extended it by a month to brush up on a few things, and then they extended it again as the relevant people were not in the office to make sure she was doing the right things.

Anyway, fast forward to today they've said its not working out and she's been let go sadly, there doesn't seem to have been anything written or anything, all just word of mouth, anything that can be said or done?

Or as I suspect, take it on the chin, forget about it and get your CV out there again?

Unless the company haven't given the correct contractual notice (or have been discriminatory in some way, although on the surface it seems they have not), then it is chin up and get the CV out there.

Well I don't know about notice, she left the same day, I would imagine they will pay the 2 weeks notice, would this usually be put in wirting?

Technically, a compnay can only pay in lieu of notice if the contract permits it. If she is not sure what her notice is then obviously she won't know what her final payment should be. If she does know what her notice is then she should ask for confirmation that this will be paid if she is not to work it.

Get them to put it in writing. Then go from there.

Would I be right in guessing she was never given a Employee Handbook like permanent staff?

Just read another post that extending the probation was not just allowed to happen on a whim...

Is this true?

There is little she can do, I had a similar experience recently.

Check what the notice period is in her contract of employment.

Email me you wanna discuss things, I am happy to talk to you about my experience.

Don't waste time, get her cv out on the market.

Regards,

Lp.

Just out of interest.

I am surprised she has 4 interviews. It's excellent. Best of luck to her.

It really makes me think about the whole
'there's no jobs' line.

I swear she was on the phone for 4 hours on Monday and has about 7 interviews ready to be set up in total, two tomorrow, two Thursday, and all the while more people are calling.

It's because we are in London, she's got decent experience, despite the probation, and there's a lot of crossover in sales jobs.

It's the Sales aspect. If she had a career in something more specific. IT programmer or Car Technician or Policewoman. She'd find it more difficult at the moment.

Fair enough, does make you wonder why people are so mocking of it, its an industry that pays well and there's always plenty of work. What's not to like?

I've never done sales as such, but I did understand that sales was well paid IF you sold plenty of whatever you are selling, and not otherwise.

Not all sales jobs are flogging windows door to door, I'm not very old (neither is she) and both our basic salaries are above national average wage, that's before we've sold anything smile

Also sales blurs into account management too which is more about relationships than hard selling, that's what I do.
