I think these guys have been mentioned on here before. They are a bunch of amateur rocket enthusiasts who intend to launch a person into space.

The live TV feed is playing up a bit at the moment, but launch is looking like about 1500.

It worked. Reached a height of 16.5km, but the parachutes didn't deploy completely for the capsule resulting in a bit of damage on landing.

Hmmm - that's not encouraging.

I guess it depends on the cause of the failure. The rocket itself worked fine.

I think it's good that people are doing this sort of thing purely because they can. They also built the launching barge, and towed it to the launch site using a fully functional submarine that they previously built.
