Coming to the end of week 2 of my mind bending champix treatment, havent killed myself yet so I guess I've escaped the worst of the side effects, they really make you feel nausious if you take one without eating though.

Anyway, I stopped smoking on Sunday, I had a massive hangover which tends to stop me smoking anyway so it seemed like a good place to start.. No major issues so far, any cravings have been relatively minor compared to what I have experienced going cold turkey in the past.

Working from home the last two days has been a challenge though, I used to smoke 20-30 a day when working from home quite easily, finish piece of work, get up, go to the back door, have a fag, back to laptop and carry on.

Several times now I've found myself stood at the back door wondering what the hell I'm doing there!!! A bit disconcerting really, entirely on autopilot I'd click save, get up and walk there, no concious thought process to do so at all!! very odd.

So I've taken to making a cup of tea and a sarnie instead, I'm now drinking 12-14 cups of tea a day and eating 5-6 sarnies... Odd as I have never really been a big tea or coffee drinker, 2 or 3 cups a week tops.

probably only marginally more healthy than smoking! I've been googling for healthy sarnie ideas, is the tea going to kill me? The Internet cant make up it's mind on wheter its good for you or going to destroy my thyroid! smile

Anyone else replaced smoking with odd new habits?

mines milk with no sugar by the way!

speaking of which, sounds like week 3 and 4 of tablets have just landed on the doormat

Carb overload! It's the bread that's going to make you fat unless you're doing a lot of cardio...

How about something as inoffensive as chewing gum or polo mints or somesuch?

I'm not a smoker so have never had to give up so my opinions may count for...fk-all

not too worried about putting on a stone or two, I start training again next week and will be running 35-40 miles a week by september so it'll dissapear in no time.

but I'll obviously be doing chicken and salad, no mayo or butter sort of thing just to take the edge off!

Talking of carb overload, you should see the egg pasta recipe I followed last night, 250g of flour, 2 whole eggs and 4 egg yolks that served 3 small-ish bowls of pasta!!! yikes

so long as the tea isnt going to destroy my liver or something! smile

Naaa, tea's OK especially as once you're more active you won't be having as much. If you want to vary it a bit, I quite like peppermint tea, especially when hungover.

that's a relief, just finishing number 9 for today, only had two sarnies so far so that's a bit better than yesterday. smile

NB it is possible to develop a (weak) addiction to caffeine, if you notice bad headaches in longer gaps between cups you might need to swap over some of your cuppas to something without caffeine.

Welcome to the world as a non smoker. Be prepared for some weight gain if you carry on like that, I did the same first time round and gained 3st.

You need to ditch the sarnies and replace them with something more calorie friendly. I know its boring, but chewing gum worked for me.

Either way, no matter what anyone tells you, you're better off doing what you are doing rather than smoking. Well done and good luck.

Chewing gum to tea? No contest! Chewing gum constantly (it will have sugar regardless of what it says on the tin) means you will overwork the muscles in your face and your salivery glands will be doing overtime when they are not supposed to. Just glad Dentyne original gum is now so hard to get in UK as I used to love that as a teenager.

It won't go down too well on Right leaning PHs but Tony Benn confessed during a BBC radio interview to drinking 10 pints of tea a day, 365 days of the year.

Over 60 years he reckoned he had drunk 219,000 pints!

“What has tea drinking done for you?’’ asked the interviewer.

“I think it has kept me alive,’’ declared Mr Benn, who this year will be 86.

I personally drink tea a lot. Probably 8 - 10 large cups daily, no sugar, sometimes milk (whole, not skimmed crap) sometimes none. And I've reached 61. No weight problems (unless you call 11st 2 a problem!) and still 6ft 1 as I was as a teenager. Never smoked. Thank god.

Your trips to the back door (steady boys!) are habit based because you used to use the cigs for an excuse to remove yourself from work/stress.

JUst accept that you can have 5 minutes at the back door or sitting in the kitchen with a cuppa or better still walk around the garden and stretch your legs.

My kitchen is tiny and has no seats, and I dont have a garden just a tiny little yard!!! arrrgh what am I to do! smile

Read something like that in a book, I've just been having a quick pace up and down the yard and a short breather/deep breaths and I crack on with work. seems to do the business.

Should have fun tonight, first drinky session since stopping... fingers crossed I dont give in.

If I can make it through tonight I dont see myself having any further issues down the line.

Cheers again for the advice everyone!
