Bracketing question

I have taken a load of photos in RAW but due to the constraints of my memory cards couldn't afford to bracket them in camera (1 shot but 3 bracketed if that makes sense). I have nearly 700 photos that are RAW images that I need to some how automate Canon DPP to open, -1 exposure, save IMG_001, normal exposure, save IMG_002, +1 exposure, save IMG_003, then open the next image and repeat the steps.

Is that possible? I just can't figure out how to.

You filled a card with 700 shots, and want to tone map them all! you're brave, or have a lot of spare time! You could open them in DPP, then export as 0 exposure, then change one to -1 exposure (or whatever you want), sync them all then export, and do the same for the +1 exposure. Then you can do whatever tonemapping you want.

Hmmm :scratchin:, hadn't thought of that. Presumably three folders with the different bracketed shots ending with a suffix a,b,c then merging them all should allow photomatix to batch process and combine them all .

Of course.

It's just the one I have (CS3) won't open the RAW files from my 7D so I'm stuck with Canon DPP for the RAW files unfortunately.

If you want to open RAW files in CS3 then you could convert them to DNG format using the free Adobe conversion tool first. I'm guessing it would then be easier to batch process in PS than DPP.

I often bracket exposures, but by the time I've processed (or double-processed) them they often look the same - it's good to have the extra back-up/flexibility though.

Why not assess each photo on its merits and go manually from there? It will save you having to make 3x images, assess them all and throw 2/3 away...
