No, it's not just you who starts threads entitled "Is it just me?".

Sorry Eric, did I rattle your sense of organisation? tongue out It wasn't easy coming up with a thread title considering the context...Still, well done for keeping it on topic thumbup

ETA In hindsight probably should have put this in the lounge as it's lighthearted.

It's just such a hackneyed title - which never indicates what the thread is about - which in turn doesn't help if someone wants to check before starting a thread on the same topic.

The other overused and meaningless thread title is "What is the world coming to?".

What was wrong with a title which mentioned the subject matter, such as "E-Coli Scare"?

Perhaps a mod could do us all a favour and modify the title.

Especially since some are taking the moderate element too far...

You know what? I actually totally agree with you in technical forums. It is infuriating when you see a topic about a specific thing or problem with a non-descript thread title, as you know damn well that if another person comes along with the same problem they'll never be able to find and benefit from the wisdom in that previous thread.

Having said that, put yourself in my place. I start a light hearted thread for general amusement, I can't decently put

"Is there a possibity that these large quantities of women and small quantities of men have been inserting contaminated cucumbers into their respective body cavities and have got E.Coli poisoning as a result?"

The only thing more irritating than generalised titles are folk who on come onto threads and derail them in the name of some sort of principle. In the context it's like correcting someone at dinner I'm front of everyone else. You've gained nothing except making the person look silly.

I posted in jest, you know "fun" and now here I am having to justify the thread title because it has displeased you somehow.

Much is the tediousness thereof. Or something.

(ETA Thanks to whoever adjusted the title smile )

It's a passable title (if a bit tired) for something in "The Lounge",
maybe. I just thought that in The news forum it wouldn't take long for at least one more "E-Coli" based topic to be started (as it is a major news item at the moment).

Fair enough Eric, we both agree this would be better in the Lounge. smile

It could have been worse. Someone posted up a news item last week titled "Ha Ha" - which was very informative.

In the meantime, keep clear of cucumbers.

I suppose we should get back on topic now. Will you be reducing your cucumber intake for the next few weeks?

I saw the Spanish food minister last night on TV taking a bite out of a raw cucumber - to demonstrate how safe they were. It reminded me of John Gummer and the mad cow beefburger - although he was far more sensible - he fed it to his daughter.

Don't worry Eric, one day forum posts will only be allowed in .xls format and then you'll have the last laugh. smile

I heard last night that ze Germans had retracted their claims that the outbreak was caused by cucumbers.

The Spanish are now demanding compensation.

Quite right too. The problem is obviously in Germany, not Spain. Spanish farmers are having to throw away tonnes of perfectly good cucumbers for no good reason.
And the Germans bombed my granddad's chip shop, but that's another matter.

Interesting that mostly women have been affected.

Muddling their paint pots, so to speak?
