As you may know ive bought a W reg ZX6R with 17,000 on the clock full KSH when i picked it up it was full to the top mark with oil 600ish miles later and its hovering above the minimum is this above normal oil consumption ? the zz never used any , i may seem a bit of a numpty for asking as it says in the book that it may use a bit but a sumpfull ?? just seems excessive to me it off back to the dealers oin saturday but they might try a fob me off with any excuse as its only got a 3 month warranty so i need some ammo to get it sorted

I have a ZZR1100D and it does use oil, sometimes at a quite alarming rate if really thrashed. However, from time to time it also gives a false reading - I've checked the level from completely cold and found it apparently way down, then left it and checked it again some time later and found it back up again!
Only conclusion I can reach is that it sometimes gathers in the top end somewhere. Take a deep breath and have another look in the morning.

The diesal bike thing came from an MOD tender that was invited about about 3 years ago for a new batch of despatch bikes the tender pack required that the bikes be capable of running on "NATO standard fuel" i.e diesal as far as I know it never got past the development stage.
On the oil thing I've raced a ZX7RR on endurance with the average mileage for 8 hrs being between 650-800 miles dependant on circuit. We always start with fresh oil/filters and at the top level on sight glass, levels are checked when the bike pits and generally never need topping up with the average being a drop to about half way between the levels after 8hrs. It sounds like you might be burning a bit so if not happy yes bend the dealers ear about it but I don't think it is too serious possible just the early stages of wear. I think if you had a leak it would be more obvious as when the engine warms up the oil becomes more viscous (sp?) and as such mists out of any cracks/leaky seals more, this can normally be easily detected by either oil on your boots, swinging arm or more seriously tyre! or if you say your mate was behind you I think he would have moaned more as he would have got "oil mist" on his screen and leathers which is often the first sign.
Oh yes as well as a level surface make sure the engines always at the same temp when checking, easy mistake to make when you go to the garage it looks full when you come back after a blat it's half way down because a load of it is still running down off the internals and settling, sorry if that sounds a bit "suck eggs"

Renegade.
Out of all the cans I've seen they are the best quality and can be simply undone with an allen key to re pack, lifetime warrenty, small company where you can phone up and actually speak to Jorge who owns the company, all dyno proved with a real performance gain, try the website first

Titanium, stainless, carbon or aluminium racers specials they can do them all. Oh yes I will admit to be being a bit biased they used to sponsor me, but they do have a top product.
