Blood In My Poo!

I have had diarrhea since Sunday morning. I havn't really had any other symptoms, although I did feel a bit feverish (probably due to loss of fluids) on Monday. I have been off work all week with this and on Tuesday I called NHS direct to see if they knew what it was. They asked me loads of questions, one of which was "Have you noticed any blood in your poo?", to which I answered no, as there wasn't. They advised me it was just a bug and it would go away in due course.
Fast forward to today and although I havn't needed to go anywhere near as much as the rest of the week, I did think I saw a red tinge a few times when doing the paperwork. I thought it was me just getting paranoid so paid no attention to it. However, I have just spent the last 10 mins on the toilet and while doing the paperwork I noticed some definite blood on the toilet paper. I then looked down into the toilet and saw some blood and then saw some drip from my bottom into the toilet!
I have been looking on the internet for causes and it seems to range anything from a torn anus to colon cancer! I am a 25 year old male. I am not the fittest, healthiest person in the world but I'm not too bad.
I am going to get along to the Docs in the morning but can anyone help put my mind at ease for this evening as I am a bit worried right now!

If it's bright red then it's likely because you've wiped your arse so much and made it bleed.
If it's dark red then it could be from higher up and is more cause for investigation.
I would suggest a trip to your doctor if you are concerned about it.
The internet is a great place for personal diagnosis but a little knowledge is a bad thing.

Yeah, as above, darker blood points to internal bleed whereas bright red is usually from wiping you arse too hard or piles. Could be linked to IBS or many relatively minor issues, but don't ignore it. Pop to the docs if it continues. Personally I wouldn't attempt an internet diagnosis, as you are sure to determine that you're dying (your not).

A trip to my (large fingered I was to discover) doctor had him investigate internally and he found an infection. I took some prescribed tablets for a couple of weeks and it cleared up.
Now the funny thing (from everyone's point of view except mine) is that I had an external fluid filled blister, so to this day wonder why he stuck his sausage finegr up my backside and wriggled it around!

Funny: Because you have a cute anus and he wanted to play. Kiss kiss etc etcRealistic: He didn't want to assume that what he could see was the only problem. So while he was gloved up, made sure there wasn't something else lurking just out of sight.

Touching an infection with a feather would hurt. Pressing an infection is something even a doctor shouldn't do in my painful experience.
But I suppose I may have had grapes, so I guess he did the right thing.
