Canon EOS 50D or 60D

Morning all,

I currently have a 350D which I have been using for a few years and would like to upgrade now.

I have seen a few posts on here regarding the 50d and 60d and generally it seems people tend to prefer the 50d especially given the cheaper price.

My question is can the 50d still be bought from anywhere and am I correct in thinking its more popular than the 60d ?

Canon pushed the xxD downmarket a little as they introduced the 7D.

So the 60D in some ways is a step back, slower (5 vs 6.5 fps) and lacks MA and the magnesium body.

But apart from that its a superb camera, cant speak of the ergonomic differences as I havnt realy used a 60D.

I have a 50D and was out with a mate the other night who was using a 60D. They seemed to be the same size and weight, but the 60D’s big selling item for me was the flip out screen. Personal choice I suppose.

I own both 50 & 60D, each has its good and bad points, if it were my money though and I had to buy new again, I'd buy the 50D EVERYTIME. I hate the flimsy flip out screen on the 60D, and miss the Micro AF which 60D doesn't have. I NEVER use the Video which 60D has - also 50D's batteries are much cheaper to buy than the overpriced 60d batteries.
Just my 2 pennath other's are certain disagree.
Both take good snaps though

I dont think you can buy a 50d new anymore, it would make a good second hand buy though.

I use a 50d and love it, when the 60d was announced i was a little dissapointed, i wouldn't see it as un uprgrade from the 50 at all. The only way forward for me would be a 7d (or 7d II or whatever the equivelent is when i choose to uprgrade, wont be any time soon)

However... Coming from a 350d the 60d will be a massive uprgade and it is certainly a great camera. It is better then the 50d in some respects (MP count, high ISO performance, video if you want it etc) but for me i wouldnt want to reduce frame rate and build quality as most of my photography is wildlife.

Only the 50D has micro focus adjustment, which for me is very helpful.

I fully agree with S47's comments on this.
I had a bit of a struggle to pick up a new 50D late last year. But I'm glad I did. The 60 is not a step forward as far as I'm concerned.
