370z Road Noise

Hi all,

Test drove a 370z at the weekend and was surprised by the level of road noise that I experienced.

Is this common with the cars or would a change of tyres help?

That and geometry by the sounds of it (from a few threads on here).

I don't know about the 370z, but it's certainly a feature of most 350zs I've driven. Mine is probably worse than most.
Getting geometry checked and set next week. Will report back.

Every road test I've read about the 370Z mentions high levels of road noise / tyre roar.

It's not put me off the 350z - I've not had it long but it's really very good. Not refined, but comfy enough and a great drive.

I noticed alot of road noise in a 350Z, it almost was like there was like a rubber seal around the gearstick was absent, I was quite disappointed in the road noise.

350z in rain or gravel was class. You could hear the sound of both hitting the wheel wells in the car.

Yeah sadly my last experience with an M3 was a potentially catastrophic engine failure at low mileage hence why I'm now shopping around.

I remeber reading they can have been known to run run flats, and well they are a instant removal and new tyres.

Ditto. The toneau cover under the boot strut makes a big difference.

Do either of you drive or are passengers in a recent or current crop of 'quality' cars? I'm comparing with my old E39 and a colleague's E350. Clearly, I'm not expecting, nor wanting, the same level of refinement - it's a sports car after all, but mine and the others I drove when buying were of a similar noise level. Not excessive, but certainly louder than the norm, IMO. Probably similar level to my TVR without the burbling/roaring V8.

I've previously driven many 'quality cars' as I worked in Car Dealerships for 15 years with the use of Company Cars (VW/Audi/Ford etc). I don't find the Z any louder than my wife's Golf GiT to be honest.

Perhaps you've 'tuned into it' and once that happens you'll never get rid of it from your head. Bit like somebody pointing out a flaw in your LCD TV which you never noticed before but now can't take your eyes off.

I have owned a 370z for the past 7 months and it all honesty it does have an amount of road noise mainly in the rain or on roads with loose stuff on it. To be honest you tune out very quickly to this and the car is a hoot to drive, great handling, good performance and comfortable.

Down side is the fact that you can't move the steering wheel towards or away from you.

I looked at other brands such as the M3/M5 and Porsche (all second hand) and once you delve into the running costs and servicing the jap car comes out on top.

It doesn't have the badge but then again all the toys are included as standard. Would I buy another - yes. Might trade it in next year for a GTR or keep it and upgrade the performance etc.
